Here’s what we are looking for:

Poetry Submit 3-5 unpublished poems in a single file. If one or more of these poems is picked up prior to hearing back from us, please notify us immediately through the submission manager.

Fiction/CNF Submit a handful of flash fiction/cnf or a single fiction or creative nonfiction piece totaling not more than 15 double-spaced pages of unpublished work.  We are particularly interested in voice driven prose in this category.

Essay Submit an essay of 1500-2000 words (could be longer if the topic requires it). We are looking for thought provoking pieces on current events, works of art, literature, cultural trends, and personal moments.

Book Reviews We are looking for both traditional reviews and lyric essays with a book or books at their center. If you are addressing multiple books, not all of them need to be newly released. For example, you might offer a retrospective across an author’s work as you review the newest addition to the author’s catalog. You are welcome to submit a completed review or a query along with links to published reviews. If you send a query and your query is accepted, we are happy to procure a copy of the book for you if you don’t already have it.

A few more details:

  • All pieces should be original and previously unpublished in any format in English.
  • We acquire first serial rights worldwide in English and non-exclusive anthology rights.
  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted. If your submission (or a portion of) is picked up prior to hearing back from us, please notify us immediately through the submission manager.
  • Please don’t send more than one submission per category; wait until your work is accepted or declined before submitting again.
  • Please direct all inquiries and comments to kmasullivan@yesyesbooks.com.
  • We do our best to respond within a reasonable amount of time but we have no slush pile readers here and since the vast majority of the work we publish comes from that beautiful pile it takes the editors some time to work through submissions. Thank you for your patience.
